Introductory Post

Game development has always been a passion of mine, and as you may have already suspected, that will be the topic of this blog.  And what better time to become an indie game developer than now, under the reign of digital publication systems!

I’ve been following Ludum Dare ever since discovering it via Notch’s videos, and have attempted a few minis and competitions myself.  It is my own elitism to use only C/C++ which has become my downfall multiple times.  With more practice, experience, and a detailed framework, I expect to beast out some epic games in upcoming competitions.

Current Projects:

1. Engiebits(Team Members: Alex Umrysh, Dustin Scott)

https://github.com/Flamingfook/Engiebits Previously I’ve developed game engines for specific purposes, rebuilding the entire framework from scratch.  Obviously this is full of copy pasta, so I’ve decided to build a framework designed to abstract most of the ugly OpenGL, OpenAL, and windows code I’ve used to setup windows, mouse listening, etc.  It will be simple and open source, and a great asset in upcoming Ludum Dare competitions!

Project Backlog:

1. Great Threats From Obscurity(Team Members: Alex Umrysh, Dustin Scott)

Project GTFO, codename Great Threats From Obscurity, is an adventure game borrowing elements from rogue-like and dungeoncrawler games to create a unique experience.  It will feature a heavily encouraged cooperative gameplay mode, which can be privately hosted by any player via a simple listen server.  Original idea by Alex Umrysh.

2. Microsiege(Team Members: James de Mattos)

Microsiege is a game which is meant to retrieve that lost part of your childhood that other games have buried so deep.  If you have ever played a Megaman or Metroid game, you’ll have a hard time containing both your nostalgia and masochism.  Original idea by James de Mattos.

3. Dualism(Solo)

Dualism was a romantic game idea I had during a special time in my life, involving the story of two heroes whose souls and bodies merge, allowing them to use each others’ abilities to achieve goals previously impossible.  This game’s cooperative nature and simple controls should allow for a unique gaming experience with someone very close to you.
